嫦娥 Cháng'é

Chang'e, Ch'ang-O, Chang-Ngo or Sheung Ngo (Chinese: 嫦娥; pinyin: Cháng'é), originally known as  Heng'e or Heng-O
姮娥;  Héng'é, changed to avoid name conflict with Emperor Wen of Han), is the Chinese goddess of the Moon.  Unlike many lunar deities in other cultures who personify the Moon, Chang'e only lives on the Moon. As the "woman on the Moon", Chang'e could
be considered the Chinese complement to the Western notion of a man  in the Moon. The lunar exploration-orbiting spacecraft Chang'e 1 is named after her. Chang'e is the subject of several legends in Chinese mythology, most of which incorporate several of the following elements: Houyi the Archer, a benevolent or malevolent emperor, an elixir of life, and of course, the Moon

嫦娥  Stories:
Chang'e and Houyi the Archer (Version 1)
According to legend, Chang'e and her husband Houyi were immortals living in heaven. One day,  ten sons of the Jade Emperor transformed into ten suns, causing the earth to scorch. Having failed to order his sons to stop ruining the earth, the Emperor summoned Houyi for help. Houyi, with his legendary archery skills, shot down nine of the sons, but spared one son to be the sun. The Jade Emperor was not pleased with Houyi's solution to save the earth: nine of his sons were dead. As punishment, the Jade Emperor banished Houyi and Chang'e to live as mere mortals on earth.
Seeing that Chang'e felt extremely miserable over her loss of immortality, Houyi decided to journey on a long, perilous quest to find the pill of  immortality so that the couple could be immortals again. At the end of his quest he met the Queen Mother of the West ,who agreed to give him the pill, but warned him that each person would only need half the pill to become immortal.
Houyi brought the pill home and stored it in a case. He warned Chang'e not to open the case and then left home for a while. Chang'e became too curious: she opened up the case and found the pill just as Houyi was returning home. Nervous that Houyi would catch her discovering the contents of the case, she accidentally swallowed the entire pill. She started to float into the sky because of the overdose. Although Houyi wanted to shoot her in order to prevent her from floating further, he could not bear to aim the arrow at her. Chang'e kept on floating until she landed on the Moon.
While she became lonely on the Moon without her husband, she did have company. A jade rabbit, who manufactured elixirs, also lived on the Moon. The mythologies of Japan and Korea also feature references about rabbits living on the Moon.
Another companion is the woodcutter Wu Gang. The woodcutter offended the gods in his attempt to achieve immortality and was therefore banished on the Moon. Wu Gang was allowed to leave the Moon if he could cut down a tree that grew there. The problem was that each time he chopped the tree, the tree would instantly grow back, effectively condemning him to live on the Moon for eternity.
Chang'e and Houyi the Archer (Version 2)
The Jade Bunny delineated on the Moon. Chang'e was a beautiful young girl working in the Jade Emperor's palace in  heaven, where immortals, good people and fairies lived. One day, she  accidentally broke a precious porcelain jar. Angered, the Jade Emperor banished  her to live on earth, where ordinary people lived. She could return to the  Heaven, if she contributed a valuable service on earth.  Chang'e was transformed into a member of a rich farming family. When she was  18, a young hunter named Houyi from another village spotted her, now a beautiful  young woman. They became friends.
One day, a strange phenomenon occurred—10 suns arose in the sky instead of  one, blazing the earth. Houyi, an expert archer, stepped forward to try to save  the earth. He successfully shot down nine of the suns, becoming an instant hero.
He eventually became king and married Chang'e.  But Houyi grew to become greedy and selfish. He sought immortality by  ordering an elixir be created to prolong his life. The elixir in the form of a  single pill was almost ready when Chang'e came upon it. She either accidentally  or purposely swallowed the pill. This angered King Houyi, who went after his  wife. Trying to flee, she jumped out the window of a chamber at the top of the  palace—and, instead of falling, she floated into the sky toward the Moon. King  Houyi tried unsuccessfully to shoot her down with arrows.
In contrast to the first version, her companion, a rabbit, does not create elixir of life. Aside  from the rabbit, the Moon is also inhabited by a woodcutter who tries to cut  down the cassia tree, giver of life. But as fast as he  cuts into the tree, it heals itself, and he never makes any progress. The  Chinese use this image of the cassia tree to explain mortal life on earth—the  limbs are constantly being cut away by death, but new buds continually appear.  Meanwhile, King Houyi ascended to the sun and built a palace. So Chang'e and Houyi came to represent the yin and yang, the Moon and the Sun.
Worship of Chang'e
On Mid-Autumn day, the full Moon night of the 8th lunar  month, an altar is set up on the open air facing the Moon to worship her. New  pastries are put on the altar for Her to bless. She endows her worshippers with beauty.

The Moon goddess was mentioned in the conversation between Houston Capcom and Apollo 11 crew just before the first Moon
landing:  Houston: Among the large headlines concerning Apollo  this morning there's one asking that you watch for a lovely girl with a big  rabbit. An ancient legend says a beautiful Chinese girl called Chang-o  has been living there for 4000 years. It seems she was banished to the Moon  because she stole the pill for immortality from her husband. You might also look  for her companion, a large Chinese rabbit, who is easy to spot since he is only  standing on his hind feet in the shade of a cinnamon  tree. The name of the rabbit is not recorded.
Collins: Okay, we'll keep a close eye for the bunny girl.

In 2007, China launched its first lunar probe, named Chang'e 1 (Chinese: 嫦娥一号; pinyin: Cháng'é Yī Hào) in the goddess's  honour.

Natural Change

Anaximenes believed that the air he breathed was change

Anaximenes flourished in the mid 6th century BC and died around 528. He was the third philosopher of the Milesian School of Philosophy.
He was a Philosophical Pragmatist who believed that a philosophical theory and concepts should be backed up with tangible representations of how they related to real life events.
An inhabitant of Miletus in Ancient Greece, he was best known for  his Doctrine Of Air that defended Air as the source of all things; as opposed the Philosopher Thales, who held the doctrine that water was the source of all things.

Anaximenes Doctrine of Air

He thought of Air as a kind of neutral stuff found everywhere and always available to stimulate physical processes. Anaximenes believed that natural forces, constantly acting on the air, transformed air into other materials that came together to form the organised world. In early Greek literature, air was associated with the soul via the breath of life. So it would come as no surprise to many thinkers of the time, that Anaximenes would relate air to the capability of directing its own development. Likening his air
theories to the soul, generally accepted at the time as in control of the body, Anaximenes was  able to transcend air into everything known about life.

Anaximenes Doctrine of  Natural Change

Furthering his Doctrine of Air, Anaximenes also developed a Doctrine of Natural Change linking his firm belief that all things were composed of air to the natural changing processes of  all life, the heavens included.   Anaximenes doctrine of natural  change supported his doctrine of  air which he backed up with commonly believed pragmatisms about the world.  Those common beliefs were when air is  thinned it becomes fire. When air is condensed it becomes wind then cloud.  When air is condensed it becomes water, then earth, then stones. From these  observations and others, Anaximenes was able to conclude that everything experienced in the world had to come from the air. Therefore, using two contrary, but accepted processes of rarefaction and condensation,
Anaximenes was able to rationally demonstrate how air was the force behind all organised, natural and earthly changes.  Fire turns to air. Air turns into wind.  Wind turns into cloud.  Cloud turns into water. Water turns into earth.  Earth turns into stone.  Anaximenes rationalised that matter can  travel  this path by being condensed and that matter can travel a reverse path  from  stones to fire by being rarefied.  He provided pragmatic evidence with a  simple blowing of air onto the back of his hand.

"if one blows on one’s hand  with the mouth relaxed, the air is hot; if one blows with pursed lips, the air is cold’

Anaximenes demonstrated to his peers.
As now known by history, this demonstration won the hearts of many an audience.

Anaximenes was the first recorded. educated thinker to provide a widely accepted theory of change supported with commonly understood, pragmatic demonstrations thereby linking his theory to real life events.
The Philosopher Anaximander, had also described a sequence of changes. Where boundless‘stuff’ underwent changes to form different ‘stuffs’ in the world. But Anaximander gave no observable demonstrations in support of his reasons for the changes. He
also did not describe any mechanism by which they might come about.
Anaximander provided little theoretical competition for Anaximenes, who was an outstanding philosophical pragmatist in his
day.  He did this by providing processes familiar to industrial experience to account for how air brought about material change. The real life event Anaximenes used was the industrial process of felting, where animal wool was compressed to make fabrics for
garments and household goods.  This industrialised process provided Anaximenes with a commonly understood model of how one stuff can take on new properties when air exists.

Anaximenes and the origin of the cosmos.

Both Ancient Greek Philosophers Anaximenes and Anaximander provided their world with an account of how the modern world was formed.  Anaximenes believed the Earth was  formed from air through a natural felting process.  In his educated view, the Earth began merely as a flat disk and from the air of  the flat disk, fiery bodies arose which came to be all that was on the earth as well as in the heavens.  Through philosophical pragmatism. Alexander was able to demonstrate, using the felting process as a guide, how the earth was floating on a cushion of air. The  heavenly bodies of the Sun and the Moon were also explained as flat bodies that
floated on cushions of air.  Anaximenes articulation of the heavens as being like a felt cap that turns around the head with the heavenly stars attached to the cap with air nails was widely accepted by those who were able to link Anaximenes theories of  air and change to the felting process. Pragmatists everywhere were now able to understand that under Anaximenes, the stars were like fiery leaves floating on air. The Sun did not travel under the Earth but circled around it  and at night, the Sun was hidden by the higher parts of the ‘felted’ Earth  causing darkness. Lightning and thunder resulted from wind breaking out of clouds. Rainbows were the result of the rays of the Sun falling on clouds. Earthquakes are caused by the cracking of the earth when it dried out after  being moistened by rains. Hail was frozen rainwater and Air was the substance of  all of this creation.

Philosophers following Aristotle aligned Anaximenes Doctrine Of Change as presupposing material monism. Monism was an accepted Early 500 BC Ancient Greek Philosophical Theory about one substance being the reason for the composition all existing things.  In Anaximenes view that one substance was clearly air because air was everywhere. It was the ever present soul of all things.

How Anaximenes changed the world.

Anaximenes determination that matter was naturally changed through rarefaction and condensation was influential in later theoretical works.  It was further developed by Heraclitus and criticized by Parmenides. It was adopted by Anaxagoras and
furthered into a different theory of matter. It was accepted by Melissus and Plato who integrated it into their explanations of  natural change.   Diogenes of Apollonia also made air the basis of his explicitly monistic theory.  However, the greatest advancement on  Anaximenes Doctrine of Air and Doctrine of Natural Change was Hippocrates with his  treatise On Breaths.
On Breaths considered Anaximenes theories on Air and Change as valuable to Hippocrates Theory of Diseases.

Throughout the ages, the method used by Anaximenes to defend his doctrines about air and change, provided a foundation from which all educated thinkers could grow philosophical thought.
Anaximenes was not only an innovator of original thought, but he also introduced another way of showing how philosophy materialised through the use of  real life examples.

Today his methods of demonstration would be well placed as scientific hypothesis.

Plan Change

Most people don’t think the words exciting and budget could ever appear in  context together. This is why it’s time for you to think about Change.
A Change Of Plan can set you free from weekly worries about where your income is being spent.  It can free you, from  misplaced credit spending and income change management goals, with better  quality of life.  If you have good  medical health, a steady income and friendly relationships with
others, there   is no reason why your Change Of Plan will not offer you a less disciplined   life.
If  you have a medical condition, no income and/or no  friendly relationships, a Change Of  Plan is vital in the introduction of a  discipline for positive mental health. No matter what your  situation, a Change Of Plan is an healthy alternative to everyday cost of living surprises. It is about a beginning in being the change. Change that will help you to visualise
how capable you are in the management of your own sense of  wellbeing.

1st Base -  What do you need?
You probably need good health, relationships, a roof over your head, an income, food in your belly, clothes on your back, fresh water to drink, transport to get from A to B, an education. Whatever you need, now is the time to acknowledge it.  For what you need are the piers under the foundation of your plan. The  strength of your piers represents the strength of what you value
about  yourself.  Planning for electronic  goods over dentistry simply says that both will change in the future and when faced with having no teeth or a new computer, your values will chose the  computer.  Dental changes will  become a heartache and hurt your ability to meet electronic changes if the need  for  dentistry is not in your Change Of Plan. Whatever you decide is an  important
need, will determine the kind of changes you will be facing in the  future. The writing on the own wall of your future will be from the change you  decided to begin planning today.  Getting  the cost of predicted needs out of the way will leave you with lots of time for dreaming about your wants and desires. Knowing how much change you have and how much change you need is what will help your planning to move onto 2nd Base.

2nd Base -  How much change do you want?

Meeting your needs was step one, but what about desires?  What about the home you have always dreamed of, the car you’ve
always wanted to drive, the ambitions you have, the  impulse buying you want to do.  What kind of change do you have left to play with? Rhetorically, how much change do you want.  2ndBase planning means you are going to have to change more than what is in your piggy bank to achieve your ambitions.  2ndBase is easy if you have your health, a steady job and a supportive partner. If you live alone with poor health, planning for change will be more of a challenge. Change agents like financial lenders will gladly buy  whatever health you have in exchange for  your commitment to your ambitions. The bigger the commitment, the more health you will need to manage the changes associated with earning a living, meeting your  needs and paying back creditors who favour your ambitions. Working  smarter not harder is not smart if the change you are earning isn’t enough to  meet the needs of your ambition supporters.  So think carefully about your ambition for it will force your needs to change should the going get tough. Your ambition needs to be able to weather the storms that may be up ahead. While impulse buying may be a worthy ambition, ask yourself today if you will feel  stronger about the exchange tomorrow.  Changes that impact upon your need to survive will cause mental illness if challenged to frequently.   2nd Base planning is an opportunity for you to consider your values, that are your essential needs and not your neighbours or immediate  family members, in greater depth.  How can change be earned or gained so you can not only meet your values, but work towards the standards of life that you want to achieve?  Asking this question while on 2nd base will help you gain  strength for the changes you will need to exercise to reach 3rd Base.

3rd Base - Be The Change

What is interesting about 3rd Base is how creative it is.  It is the place where you will change, yet remain vigilant for the execution of your Change Of Plan.   3rd Base is  where  making a killing is as important as the goals of your Change Of Plan.  If  you keep doing your sums, achieving change is guaranteed.  However when wants change,  needs also change. Ignoring needs increases their value. To keep your  Change Of Plan in optimum health, review its strengths every single year.  On 3rdBase your strengths will be tested.  The result of  which could see you on a home run or back at the beginning.  Executing your Change Of Plan assures you of value for money.  Real change competes against no –one, including you.  Handle change with care and it can offer you the opportunity of financial  freedom.  Disregard its value and  you will pay for neglecting your change with your health.

4th Base - Real Change

Real Change is the gift of providing freedom for the people who value themselves the most.  Getting to 4thBase means you paid attention to the wellbeing of the team.  It means that every time you gained income, you gave the value of it to yourself, even while
you were paying your creditors.  It means you learned about the value of you and structured your ambitions to accommodate your values. It means you have accepted responsibility for your own health and well being. You know how to structure a budget, maintain it and use it to change your life for the better.  You may not have designed you Change Of Plan with columns of value needs first over wantful or ambitious standards. You might even be where you are today because of chance or luck.  No matter how you arrived at the age you are today, your existing Change Of Plan brought you here. The benefit of taking a more pragmatic approach to well being and planning your needs well in advance, is that you will get to 4thBase and on towards home. This is because accounting needs first  before wants means being comfortable in your own skin. No one arrives on 4th Base wearing someone else’s skin even if  that skin has been adequately paid for.  This is because 4th Base is about self-actualisation. If your Change Of Plan has not met your own needs, those needs will pop up when you least expect if,  forcing you to go back in the
other direction. The home line security 4th Base provides is a reflection of your own values and standards. To identify what
you need, in other words what you value, go back  to 1st Base. To identify what  you want, in other words what your standards are, go back to 2nd Base.  3rd Base is the actualisation of how well you have identified your values and needs.  Most of us live in the shadow of other people’s changes. This does not become  more evident until we get to life on 3rd Base. There is nothing wrong about taking yourself  back to 1st Base whenever you become aware that the needs you are meeting are not your own.  keeping in mind that no matter when awareness happens, any change you will ever make will be the right one. The more you learn from the consequences of your decisions, the better able you will be to use your monetary change to your best advantage.
Money management that puts your needs and the needs of your family first will not stop any teenagers from talking you into putting what they value first. Involving your teenagers in needs based planning by giving them their own money and helping them to manage their own Change Of Plan is highly recommended.
