Portia De Rossi is an Australian who went to America and became a famous actress and model and married Ellen. When Portia was thirteen, model agencies were telling her that her legs were quite big and her bum looked like she hadn't worked out. Portia also told her mum that she was gay but her mum told her not to tell anybody as it would not be good for her reputation. So when she got older she got married to a guy but she got a thing for the woman neighbour and they became best friends. The main reason Portia started losing a lot of weight was because of her mum and the part she got in a television drama. She went shopping with her best friend because she needed clothes for her new part in the drama and while she was trying on clothes she realised that she really did need to change her weight.
A big part of the book is about Portia's fight to stay light and how she felt being skinny was an important part of her reputation. While I was reading Portia's story I felt like I was fat and also needed to lose weight. But at the end of the book I realised that it is not good to become really skinny because you can get all of these illnesses. Losing too much weight and staying really skinny is not an easy thing to do because no matter how much weight Portia lost, she didn't loose the weight off her legs like was her original goal. She lost it off her arms and her torso and I realised that if I went on a diet I probably wouldn't lose any weight off my legs either. So you cannot change your shape just because you want to and to accept yourself just as you are by eating and exercising right is the best way for a healthy and happy life.
